what do contrasting mean in sewing. I am a beginner !!

'Contrast' simply means made in different fabric from the main item so that it creates a contrast - e.g. make a cushion cover from a flowery fabric, then make a contrast piping from a plain coloured fabric that picks out one of the tones from the flowery design.
