Welcome to the SimplyFurnishings.com website!
Many years of commercial experience designing and making soft furnishings, coupled with my time spent teaching, has inspired me to write the Simply Furnishings Teach Yourself Soft Furnishings sewing guides. In this amazing world of modern technological advancement, what could be easier than buying publications online that enable you to acquire new skills without moving outside your own front door!
My aim is to provide a totally unique learning experience. The Teach Yourself Guides have been compiled primarily with ease of use in mind. I have spent some considerable time reviewing soft furnishings publications already on the market and many are of excellent quality. In particular, I greatly admire the work of Merrick & Day who have truly revolutionised the ability for students to learn to make their own soft furnishings. Some publications however, I find difficult to follow and many are out of date in terms of design. Often, instructions are far from clear and too many assumptions are made regarding the reader's existing knowledge of the fundamental making-up processes. Books which are all encompassing in terms of the variety of soft furnishings projects they describe, tend to be non-specific on individual projects. If your only wish is to make cushions, why invest in an expensive publication that touches on dozens of topics in scant detail? For only a few pounds you can now purchase one of our easy to follow Teach Yourself Guides focusing on individual projects and requiring nothing more than sound basic sewing skills. Each guide covers one specific soft furnishings item with design variations and an evaluation section that highlights many of the pitfalls you may encounter.
If you live in the UK, this written learning can be reinforced by attending one of our day courses run from our base in Fleet in Hampshire. Here you will have the opportunity to share in the knowledge I have acquired over the years in making quality soft furnishings both for myself and my clients.
This is not the end however! We hope that you will take the opportunity to extend this learning experience by re-visiting our web site and checking out the new articles, top tips and useful resources that we add each month, as well as participating in our message board. Problems that you encounter can be addressed here - I will visit the forum regularly and endeavour to answer any difficult design or making-up queries that you may stumble upon during your sewing projects. I have encountered so many students in the past whose inspiration and enthusiasm has been dampened by a sense of failure or frustration. A little on-going encouragement and advice is so often all that is needed for anyone to achieve a successful outcome!
All of us at Simply Furnishings hope that you enjoy browsing our web site and feel, as we do, that we are offering a unique service that not only enables you to develop valuable sewing skills but also inspires you to tackle new and exciting soft furnishing projects with confidence.
